2015 TVL Basketball Tournament -- Consolation Games

The 2015 Twin Valley League tournament rolled on Tuesday night with four consolation games between first round losers in the tournament.

Girls

#11 Blue Valley vs. #9 Hanover     (Hanover won 56-39) 

A strong first quarter by the Hanover Wildcats gave them the early 18-7 lead over Blue Valley and the lead grew to 38-18 at the half. The 20-point halftime was enough of a cushion for Hanover to cruise to the 56-39 win in the consolation games at the TVL tournament. Paige Doebele led a trio of Wildcats in double figures, scoring 13 points, while Riley Doebele added 12pts and Katelyn Jueneman scored 11 points as Hanover moved to 4-6 on the year with the win. In the loss Blue Valley was led by Megan Plummer who tallied 15 points, while the Rams fell to 1-9 on the season.

#13 Onaga vs. #12 Frankfort            (Frankfort won 59-56) 

It was the tightest game of the year for Onaga as the Buffaloes were looking for their first win of the season but Frankfort behind 10 three-point baskets earned the 59-56 win. The Buffaloes led 12-9 after the first quarter but a 22-12 second quarter by Frankfort gave them the 31-24 lead at the half and enough of a cushion to hold on for the win. Abra Shirley and Maura Kennedy led Frankfort in the win with 14 points each, while Rebecca Adams added 13 points and Kyla Hardwick scored 10 points. Frankfort with the win improved to 2-9 on the season, while Onaga fell to 0-10 on the year. In the loss Onaga was led by Rebekah Glessner who posted 24 points, while Carley Wilhelm chipped in 18 points.

Boys

#11 Wetmore vs. #8 Axtell          (Axtell won 66-51)

The Axtell Eagles shot off to a fast start, holding the 10-point lead after the first quarter against Wetmore, leading 18-8 and grew that lead to 33-18 as the Eagles held the Cardinals at bay in the second half for the 66-51 win. For the second straight game Andrew Feldkamp led Axtell posting 17 points, yet again while Shane Talbot added 14 points. Colton Buessing chipped in 13 points for the Eagles, netting 11 points at the charity stripe, going 11-11, while Adam Kuckelman added 10 points as Axtell improved to 7-6 on the year. With the loss Wetmore fell to 2-9 on the season, as Jeremy Hoelscher posted 13 points and Trey Craig scored eight points.

#13 Clifton-Clyde vs. #12 Blue Valley               (Blue Valley won 42-34)

Despite only having four guys score the Blue Valley Rams picked up the eight point win topping Clifton-Clyde 42-34 in TVL tournament consolation action. It was only a three-point game at the half with Blue Valley leading 21-18 at intermission, but the Rams added to their lead to gain the win.  Hadyn Budenbender led the Rams with 18 points, while three other Rams posted eight points each in the win, improving to 2-8 on the year. Clifton-Clyde fell to 0-10 with the loss and is still in search of their first win of the season. Andrew Seifert paced the Eagles with 14 points in the loss to Blue Valley.
