Holton Hoops Swept by Hayden

It was a battle of four state-ranked Wildcat teams meeting on Monday night in the Kansas Capital City, but Hayden pulled away in the second half of both games to complete the home sweep.  

GIRLS = Hayden 57, Holton 39
Hayden never trailed after jumping to a 12-5 lead after one quarter and stretched the margin to 27-13 at halftime.  Number 7 ranked Holton committed 25 turnovers and lost the rebounding battle while getting a team high 10 points from freshman, Shay Tanking off the bench before falling to 2-2.  The Holton Cats had 10 players score but Makenzie Moore was the next highest with 6.  Number 3 ranked Hayden got 16 points from Bree Schmidt and 11 from Kirah Lohse improving to 2-0.    

BOYS = Hayden 68, Holton 44
Hayden took control with an early 8-0 run and held Holton to just four points in the first quarter.  Hayden went up 15-4 and held a 28-18 advantage at the break.  Holton got within 5 points twice in the third quarter, but Hayden closed th stanza on a 10-2 run and pulled away.  Hayden scored 24 points in the final quarter and was 21 of 31 at the foul line, compared to Holton's 1 of 3 attempts at the charity stripe.
 
Number 6 ranked Holton also had two technical fouls in the final quarter and was led by Garrett Beecher for the fourth straight game with 13 points. Fellow seniors, Nils Bergsten and Parker Sides each added 8 before Holton dropped to 2-2.  Number 8 ranked Hayden was led by Marcus Meier with a huge night including 33 points and 17 rebounds as Hayden improved to 1-1.  

Both Holton teams are 2-1 in Big 7 League Play and will travel to Riverside on Friday in their final December games of the season.
