Nemaha Central Takes Second & Sabetha Fourth at Sabetha Volleyball Invite

It was the final regular season tournament action for several area teams on Saturday as Sabetha hosted six area teams along with three others for volleyball action.

The day got rolling with pool play action with two pools of five teams apiece with first and second teams in each pool moving on into the Championship bracket action.

In Pool "A" it was Wamego winning the pool going 4-0 in pool play as they picked up wins over Pleasant Ridge (25-17, 25-19), Concordia (25-20, 25-15), Heritage Christian (25-12, 25-14) and Holton (26-24, 25-22). Concordia followed up Wamego by going 3-1 in pool play beating Holton (25-23, 25-20), Pleasant Ridge (25-16, 25-19) and Heritage Christian (25-12, 25-14). Holton, Pleasant Ridge and Heritage Christian finished third, fourth and fifth in Pool "A", respectively as the Wildcats finished 2-2, Pleasant Ridge 1-3 and Heritage Christian 0-4. Holton's wins came versus Pleasant Ridge (25-23, 25-18) and Heritage Christian (25-13, 25-12), while Pleasant Ridge beat Heritage Christian (25-14, 25-18).

Pool "B" was highlighted by Nemaha Central and Sabetha, with the Thunder winning the pool with a 4-0 record in pool play and Sabetha took second with a 3-1 record in pool play. Nemaha Central picked up straight set wins over Hiawatha (25-11, 25-13) and ACCHS (28-26, 25-17), while needing three sets to top Marysville (25-20, 15-25, 25-21) and Sabetha (25-18, 17-25, 25-16). The Bluejays picked up their three wins over ACCHS (25-15, 25-15), Marysville (26-24, 25-21) and Hiawatha (25-15, 25-10). Marysville, ACCHS and Hiawatha finished third, fourth and fifth in Pool "B", respectively as the Bulldogs went 2-2, ACCHS 1-3 and Hiawatha 0-4. Marysville's wins came versus ACCHS (25-14, 25-17) and Hiawatha (25-9, 25-13), while ACCHS beat Hiawatha (25-17, 25-17).

In the Semifinals, Sabetha squared off with Wamego, while Nemaha Central played Concordia. Wamego took down Sabetha 28-25, 19-25, 25-11, while Nemaha Central topped Concordia 25-22, 25-21. In the Championship, Wamego won in straight sets over Nemaha Central 25-23, 25-11 to win the Sabetha Invite and give the Thunder second place on the day.

The third place matchup saw the host Sabetha fall to Concordia 25-10, 22-25, 25-12 giving Sabetha fourth place as a team.
