Centralia Runs Past Onaga to Remain Unbeaten On Season

Centralia-Wetmore Panthers hit the road on Friday night in week three as the Onaga Buffaloes welcomed them to town for a Twin Valley League battle, in which the Panthers ran to the 56-14 victory.

After a delay to the kickoff the game got rolling around 7:30pm and both team put together nice drives to start the game but it was Centralia capitalizing on their first three offensive drives with touchdowns. The Panthers made it 8-0 after a 13 play drive covering 80 yards and finished with a Darrian Turner 22-yard run and two-point conversion successful. Wyatt VanDorn put another score up for Centralia on their next offensive play busting an 80-yard run to the house, while adding a 17-yard score later in the first half.

The Buffaloes had a pair of offensive drives stall out in Panther territory early on in the first half, but struggled to find a rythm on offense, but were only down 21-0 at the half.

Coming out of the half the Panthers got the ball and got it on a short field after the Buffaloes missed on getting an on-side kick. Centralia took advantage adding another score as Turner scampered 24-yards for the score, leading to a 27-0 lead for the Panthers. The lead continued to grow has Trevor Mars scored his first TD of the game with 5:37 left to go in the third quarter.

Onaga finally broke through right before the end of the third quarter as out of a timeout the Buffaloes dialed up a pass play and Wyatt Cordell hit Jarod Gronewoller for a 15-yard score, making it 36-7 going into the fourth quarter. Centralia driving again tossed an interception and gave Onaga the ball back after they just scored, but the momentum quickly swung back to Centralia as Onaga fumbled the ball and Austin Morris scooped it up running it back 44-yards for a score.

The Buffaloes fumbled twice more, both recovered by Centralia and one ran back by Dustin Talley for a TD, also in the fourth quarter. The Panthers added a 35-yard TD run by John Johnson before the night was over, while Cordell notched a 56-yard TD run for Onaga's other points on the night, as the Buffaloes fell to Centralia 56-14.

Centralia in the win ran for 463 yards, while VanDorn led the way with 206 yard on 12 carries and two TDs earning him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" on KMZA. Turner added 182 yards on 14 carries with two TDs, as the Panthers improved to 3-0 on the season.

Onaga with the loss fell to 1-2 on the year and was led by Cordell who finished with 96 yards on 15 carries TD and passed for a score, as the Buffaloes also got 71 yards on 19 carries by Michael Bliss.
