Twin Valley League Teams & Jackson Heights Highlight the Onaga Cross Country Invite

Multiple Twin Valley League teams and Jackson Heights meet up with a few other schools and took to the course at Cool Springs golf course in Onaga for cross country action on Thursday and multiple area runners put together top notch performances.

The top area individual performance came in the boy's competition as Washington County Tiger senior, Dylan Hodgson posted a time of 16:01 to claim first place by one minute and 35 seconds. While, Jackson Heights senior, Kaitlynn Little had the best area girl's showing placing second with a time of 17:46.

The best team performance from the area came in the boy's competition, also as Washington County took home first place as a team with three runners finishing in the Top 11 and seven runners finishing in the Top 30 overall. Valley Heights and Onaga duked it out for second and third as the Mustangs edged the Buffaloes by seven points for second, giving Onaga third. The rest of the boys' team finishes had Frankfort finish fourth, Wetmore fifth, Jackson Heights sixth, Rock Creek seventh, Kaw Valley eighth and Centralia ninth.

On the girls side of competition it was a non-area team in Kaw Valley taking first place, with Centralia placing second and Washington County rounding out the Top three, placing third. Rock Creek, Onaga and Frankfort finished out the rest of the team finishes placing fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.

While, Washington County had the best area performance with Hodgson leading his team, two other Tigers finished in the Top 20 in the boys race, as Eric Miller placed sixth with a time of 18:34 and Jefferson Simmons placed 11th behind a time of 18:52. The lady Tigers also picked up a pair of Top 20 finishers as Madison Stone finished ninth with a time of 20:23 and Cheyenne Helms placed 16th (21:00).

Jackson Heights Cobra, Little paced the Cobras on the day but three of her teammates joined her with Top 20 performances. Two coming in the girls race with Alexis Rieschick placing 12th (20:46) and Danyel Duryea finishing 17th (21:08). In the boys race it was Seth Holliday leading the Cobras as he raced to an eighth place finish with a time of 18:42.

Onaga, Axtell, Centralia, Frankfort, Wetmore, Valley Heights and Hanover all had multiple Top 20 finishers on the day at the Onaga Invitational.

For the Buffaloes the performance of Michael Eisenbarth lead the way as he raced his way to a third place showing at his home meet posting a time of 17:40, while his teammate Luke Marten finished ninth with a time of 18:42.20. For the girls, Onaga had a pair of Top 10 finishers as Maggie Revell placed fifth behind a time of 19:01 and Alexis VanDonge placed 10th with a time of 20:27.

The Axtell Eagles had four Top 20 finishers, two in each competition on the day. Burke Deters and Oliver Schmitz raced to 10th and 15th place finishes, posting times of 18:51 and 19:13, while in the girl's race Chelsea Smith took third place with a time of 18:06 and Susan Peschel placed 13th behind a time of 20:46.

Centralia Panthers grabbed four Top 20 showings on the day as Sadie Jones led the Panthers finishing sixth with a time of 19:21. While, Madison Boeckman and Kaitlyn Becker each also finished in the Top 20 in the girls race with times of 20:50 and 20:52. In the boy’s race, Dylan Boeckman finished 13th place racing to a time of 18:56.

Frankfort Wildcats were led by a second place finish by freshman, Brodric Shirley who posted a time of 17:36, while his teammate, Alex Roeder finished 18th (19:19) on the day. Alena Werhkamp had the best lady Wildcat finish, posting a time of 21:13 to place 18th in the girls race.

The Wetmore Cardinals had a pair of Top 20 finishers in the boys race as Aaron Achten took home fifth place after notching a time of 18:27, while Layne Hodge finished 17th with a time of 19:18. While, also having a pair of Top 20 finishes in the girls race as Elizabeth Hutfles finished seventh with a time of 19:58 and Corinne Haverkamp placed 11th (20:41).

For Valley Heights, they were led by the performance of Adrain Pishney who placed fourth in the boys race with a time of 17:43, while Ilexus Rose took home an eighth place finish in the girls race with a time of 20:02.

Hanover's lone Top 20 finisher on the day came in the boy’s race as Michael Jueneman placed 16th with a time of 19:16.
