Centralia Panthers Football Too Tough for Troy

It was a battle of ranked teams a top the Twin Valley League on Friday night at John Riggins Field, but the Panthers proved that despite moving up to the 3A ranks, they are still the "Class" of the TVL. Centralia ran for 426 yards and scored four straight touchdowns to open the second half to put away visting Troy.  

Darrian Turner ran for 223 yards on 19 carries, including touchdown runs of 6, 80 and 59 in the first half to give the Panthers a 22-8 advantage.  Wyatt VanDorn finished with 140 yards on 14 totes and ran for three touchdowns in the second half, while also completing a 32-yard scoring pass to Trevor Mars on the last play of the third quarter to make the score 44-8.

Troy finished with just over 200 yards of total offense on scored on a pair of fourth down plays.  It was a 15-yard pass from Tristan Speer to Jake Ross with 8:41 to play in the second quarter that made it 14-8 after a fade pass from Speer to Ross was good for a two-point-conversion.  But, two plays later, Turner scored on another Panther big run.  The Trojans capped the scoring by driving 65 yards on 10 plays and got a 31-yard touchdown strike from Speer to Collin Jasper with 4:44 to go in the game. Speer was 10 of 22 for 117 yards, while Derek Franken got 56 of his 61 rushing yards in the second half.

The game was also highlighted by a pair of top lineman and linebackers in Northeast Kansas as Jay Whetstine and Nathan Gaarder shined again for Troy on defense and Joey Ferron was dominant on both sides of the trenches and former B&B Falcon, Derek Muetting, made a ton of big plays for the Panthers at linebacker.  

Troy, ranked 3rd in Class 2-1A, drops to 1-1 and will host Valley Heights, while Centralia-Wetmore has won 15 straight games (35 of their last 36) and plays at Onaga in week three to take another step towards a 16th consecutive TVL 11-Man Title.
