Pleasant Ridge Boys Win Wamego Cross Country Invite, While Sabetha, Frankfort & Atchison Also Have Top Performers

Many teams from across the State converged on Wamego on Saturday for cross country and those teams included a few area teams as Pleasant Ridge, Sabetha, Frankfort, Doniphan West and Atchison all had competitors at the Wamego cross country invitational.

Headlining the day was the Pleasant Ridge Rams boys team as they raced their way to a first place performance in the 3-2-1A race, winning by 18 points over Thomas More Prep. Overall 18 teams competed in the boy’s competition, with the other area teams coming in at fifth for Marysville, 10th for Sabetha and 12th for Frankfort. In the girl’s 3-2-1A race, Pleasant Ridge was the only area team to compete as a team and finished fifth out of 10 teams.

In the Class 4A race, Atchison ran in the competition and the girl's squad notched a fifth place finish out of 18 teams, while the boys team finished 16th out of 18 teams.

Individually, Atchison's Sarah Jaloma led the way at the Wamego Invitational for the area performers as she won the 4A girls race, after a posting a time of 15:41.93, to win by a little over 15 seconds. Jaloma beat out 100 other racers in the competition, while her teammates notched Top 50 performers. Emily Jaloma finished 23rd, while Hailey Macierowski and Lyndi Hanson finished 27th and 28th, respectively and Teagan Hanson notched a 48th place. While in the boy's competition Justin Whitmer had the best performance for Atchison finishing 53rd, while Matthews Stowers, Austin Ober, Dallas Woolston and Alex Howard, Benedict Horvatic and Spencer Vice finished 56th, 91st, 100th, 102nd, 105th, 106th and 107th, respectively.

Pleasant Ridge boys on their way to first place as a team was led by three Top 25 performers with Luke Oatney leading the charge behind his 14th place showing with a time of 18:19.53, while Tyler Darrow finished 17th with a time 18:33.99 and Noah Tattershall claimed 22nd place. Gabe Younger, Clayton Price, Reid Herken and Derek Zule placed 33rd, 37th, 57th and 94th for the Rams. For the lady Rams, Kristina Silvers put together a sixth place finish to have the best performance from the area in the girl's 3-2-1A race posting a time of 16:24.71. The rest of the lady Rams finished - Bridget Howard (34th), Taylor Satre (53rd), Carly Simonis (54th) and Skylar Ling (55th).

For the Sabetha Bluejays they were led by a three of Top 20 finishers one in both the boys and girls races. Keegan Cox notched a 12th place showing after posting a time of 18:11.15 and Corbin Cox finished 18th with a time of 18:39.60, while Taryn Schuette finished 15th in the girls competition with a time of 17:19.53. On the girls side of competition the rest of the Bluejays finished 36th, 81st and 85th places as Miranda Huettner, Karrington Payne and Grace Bailey posted those finishes, respectively. Tyler Huber, Nate Niehues, Tyler Hackney, Nathaniel Haislip registered finishes of 78th, 93rd, 100th and 124th for the Bluejays.

Frankfort Wildcats were led by a seventh place finish by Brodric Shirley at the Wamego Invitational as he raced to a time of 17:49.76. His teammate Alex Roeder was the only other Wildcat to finish in the Top 50, taking 50th place, while Sheldon Parthemer placed 76th, Brenden Levi 83rd, Rylen Bailey 92nd, Jacob Studer 96th, Jaron Thomas 105th, Noah Suther 114th, Riley Ahlvers 115th and Austin Hardwick 120th. In the girl's competition both Alina Wehrkampa and Amburley Kokoruda ran for Frankfort finishing 63rd and 71st.

Marysville boys had the best area individual performance in the 3-2-1A race as Joe Smith ran his way to a fourth place finish with a time of 17:20.70. Zach Pieschl grabbed 30th place for the Bulldogs, while Skylar Widmer finished 32nd. The rest of the Marysville boy’s finishes had Lane Smith 62nd, Lucas Gudenkauf 99th, Preston Mindt 128th. On the girl's side, Grace Stohs had the best finish for the Bulldogs placing 59th, while Taybor Smith finished 76th.

Doniphan West also competed at the Wamego Invitational with Casey Billups as the only runner on the day as he finished 131st in action.
