Doniphan County, Sabetha & Atchison Prepare for Legion State Tournaments

The Legion baseball season continues for three Northeast Kansas League teams this week as they prepare for action in the AA and AAA State tournaments starting on Wednesday.

Doniphan County is set to host the AA State tournament in Wathena and as host will participate in the tournament, coming into the tournament with a 22-9 record and NEKL regular season and tournament champions. Doniphan County will open the tournament against Fort Scott in the opening round of State in the second game of the night doubleheader, with the game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Ottawa versus Ellis matchup at 6:00pm.

Sabetha will also participate in the AA State tournament after winning the Zone 5 tournament and head into the State tournament with a 27-15 record. Sabetha Raptors will be participating in the State tournament for the sixth time in the last eight years. The Raptors will face-off against Larned in the opening round, taking the diamond 30 minutes after the first game of the tournament which starts at 1:00pm between Concordia and Silver Lake.

At the AAA State tournament in Pittsburg, KS, Atchison will be representing the NEKL returning to the State tournament for the first time since 2011. Atchison heads into the State tournament 14-15 on the season and will take on the host of the AAA State tournament in Pittsburg, game will be the last game of the day on Wednesday, July 30th starting approximately 30 minutes after the 5:00pm game of Emporia versus Arkansas City. The early first games have Hays versus Salina at 11:00am and Newton against Dodge City, 30 minutes after the Hays and Salina matchup.
