Highland Community College football put together one of the best season's in program history finishing 6-4 and making their first ever KJCCC playoff appearance last season. This season brings new challenges for the Scotties with a new coach taking over and only a few starters back from last year's team.

Scotties come into the year with plenty of question marks and are preseason picked tied for fifth with Garden City in the KJCCC preseason football poll. Butler for the 12th straight year was selected preseason number one in the League, while Hutchinson came in at number two, Dodge City at three, Coffeyville fourth and the final two teams in the poll were Fort Scott and Independence at seventh and eighth.

For Highland plenty of obstacles present themselves coming into this year as their coach from the two years has departed but the team should have some stability in the coaching depart as new head coach, Aaron Arnold takes over the program. Arnold has been with the team for a few years and last year was an assistant coach, working as the offensive line coach, run game coordinator and head strength coach.

"The season is a giant question mark. We will have something to prove every week," said Arnold, at KJCC media day.

Arnold will be familiar with Highland and some of the players he has the task of replacing all 11 starters on offense and seven on defense. Scotties on offense put up record breaking numbers last year averaging 414 yards per game and 28.4 points per game, while the defense gave up 374.8 yards per game and 28.2 points per game.

Finding a new signal caller to replace first All-KJCCC quarterback, Brandon Bergeron will not be an easy task for the Scotties.

"Most intriguing position this season will be at the quarterback. Five or six kids will be battling for the starting spot, replacing Brandon Bergeron," said Arnold at KJCC media day.

Scotties come into the year off one of their best seasons and Coach Arnold believes the returners are showing leadership to help this team along as they look to build off last year.
