Zone tournament played continued on Tuesday night for teams across the State of Kansas and a pair of Northeast Kansas League legion teams saw their season come to an end. Both Hiawatha and Frankfort bowed out of their respective Zone tournaments, as Hiawatha fell to Marysville 4-3 in eight innings in Zone 5 AA elimination game, while Frankfort lost twice on Tuesday faling to Silver Lake 14-5 and then Rock Creek 12-3 in five innings in an elimination game in Zone 4 AA at Silver Lake. Wrapping up the night at Somerset Park in the Zone 5 AA tournament was Sabetha capturing a win over Doniphan County 5-2 in a winner's bracket game.

The night opened at Somerset Park with Marysville and Hiawatha both looking to keep their season alive in the first elimination game of the Zone 5 AA tournament and for the second time in the first three games of the tournament extra innings was needed to decide the winner, as Marysville picked up the 4-3 eight inning win.

Marysville got on the board early with a run in the bottom fo the first after getting the leadoff man on via a single, Brock Watts came up with an RBI single to make it 1-0. Neither team could break through for the next three innings, as the game moved with a quick pace, but in the bottom of the fifth Marysville got on the board again using an RBI single by Trey Loshe to make it 2-0.

Looking to break through with some offense, Hiawatha did just that in the top of the sixth inning tallying three-runs on five hits and a walk, including RBI singles by Parker Hasenkamp, Taylor Jacobsen and Marshall Swearingen, giving Hiawatha the 3-2 lead. Headed into the bottom of the seventh with the lead Hiawatha was three-outs from the win and Marysville tied the game behind a pair of hits and a walk in the seventh to force extra innings.

After going down quietly in the top of the eighth, Hiawatha needed to buckle down on defense to keep the game going but Marysville got a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the eighth and then a Hiawatha error, but two guys on base and CJ Becker then notched a RBI single to give Marysville the 4-3 walk-off win.

Marysville with the win moved to 16-9 on the year and was led offensively by Loshe who was 3-4 with an RBI, while Ian Roever and Garrett Crome each had a multi-hit game. Roever finished 2-3 with a walk and Crome posted a 2-4 night with a walk and reaching on an error.

Hiawatha with the loss wraps up their season with a 7-27 record, falling in a pair of extra-inning games in the Zone tournament. Dalton Lehmkuhl took the tough loss on the mound going the distance giving up four runs on eight hits, five walks and striking out two, while the team had six hits on the hit.

In the night cap it was Sabetha and Doniphan County meeting up in a winner's bracket matchup and the Raptors claimed the 5-2 victory.

Each team sprinkled in a few base runners early, but the opportunities were limited until the top of the third when Sabetha used a leadoff double by Taylor Bauman and two RBI singles, by Keegan Schumann and Dustin Boeckman to take the 2-0 lead. Doniphan County answered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game scoring two-runs on the four walks and an RBI single by Cody Israel.

Sabetha got some help with an error by Doniphan County in the top of the six to get the leadoff man on and the Raptors took advantage drawing three walks and getting a two RBI single by Bauman to score three and take the 5-2 lead and ultimately hold that margin for the win.

With the win Sabetha improved to 25-15 on the season and was led by Bauman on the night who was 2-3 with a double, two RBI's and a run scored while pitching the final inning and one-third of the game.

Doniphan County in the loss managed only two hits, both coming from Israel who was 2-2 with an RBI and two walks, as the team fell to 21-8 on the year.

That sets up Doniphan County versus Marysville at 6:00pm on Wednesday night, July 23rd in an elimination contest, while Sabetha will play Seneca in the second game of the doubleheader in a winner's bracket game with the winner moving one win away from winning the Zone 5 AA tourney. Both games will be broadcasted on Kanzaland radio coverage starting around 6:00pm on 103.9 KNZA & 92.1 KMZA.

In the Zone 4 AA tournament at Silver Lake, Frankfort saw their season come to a close as they started off the night playing Silver Lake in a winner's bracket game and fell 14-5 and then due to Clay Center forfeiting out of the tournament Frankfort had to turn around and play again Tuesday night in an elimination game versus Rock Creek. In game two of the night for Frankfort, it was Rock Creek claiming the win 12-3 in five innings, ending Frankfort's season as they finish the year 10-15.

Zone tournaments continue all around the State Wednesday, with the action in Sabetha for NEKL teams and Atchison opens AAA Zone NE play at Emporia tonight at 5:30pm against host Emporia.
