Nebraska Coaches Association Awards Presented

The Nebraska Coaches Association held it’s annual awards banquet Sunday at the Old Lincoln Train Station – Great Hall, in the Historic Haymarket, Lincoln. 

2014 NCA-Country Inn & Suites Scholarship Winners included Scott Borcher, of Pawnee City High School.

Scott Borcher was a four-year letter winner in three sports at Pawnee City High School, participating in football, basketball and track & field. He earned first team all-state honors in football his senior year. A two-time qualifier to the state track meet, Scott finished 1st & 2nd respectively in the shot put and discus as a senior. His athletic accolades are many, but Scott is most proud of his leadership abilities both on and off the field of play. He was involved in many activities in the school and community, including volunteer coaching for the junior high post league, serving as a role model to the young Pawnee City student-athletes. The class valedictorian finished his high school career with a 4.0 GPA and earned an ACT score of 32. He will continue his education at Creighton University as a Finance & Accounting major.

2013-2014 NCA-NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE AWARD WINNERS include 45-YEAR COACHES 

Dave Oman, currently coaching at Centura.  Oman started his careeer at  Table Rock from 1969-72; Wilber-Clatonia, 1972-76;

Norfolk, 1976-98; Grand Island Senior High, 1998-2009; Doniphan-Trumbull, 2009-12; Centura, 2012-present.

CAREER AWARD WINNERS to be honored include, Doug Goltz who will receive the – Ed Johnson Award

Coach Goltz has had many coaching accomplishments during his 27 years at Falls City Sacred Heart High School. He has guided the boys’ basketball team to eight state championships, including a 4-year stretch from 1988-1991. Named the 1990 Boys Coach of the Year by the Lincoln Journal Star, he received the same award from the Omaha World Herald in 1991. Doug has earned a career record of 522-138 in boys’ basketball, while also serving as head football coach and head track & field coach at FCSH, earning 7 state championships in football and 10 team championships in track & field. He has especially enjoyed the last four years, coaching his son Matt in three state tournaments. Doug and his wife Janice also have two daughters, Alicia & Maggie.

In addition Goltz was honored for being one of 8 finalists for the National Coach of the Year Award in High School Basketball.
