Records fall at Irish Invitational

(KTNC) -  Falls City Sacred Heart hosted the Irish Invitational track meet Tuesday in Syracuse.

 Syracuse boys and girls teams were the team champions. The Rocket girls won with 121 points, with Pawnee City second with 106. Sterling had 70 points for 3rd place, Johnson-Brock was 5th with 39 points, and Sacred Heart had 30 points for an 8th place finish.

 Syracuse won the boys’ team race with 115 points, with Sacred Heart close behind with 105, Sterling 3rd with 76 points and Pawnee City 4th with 70 points. Lourdes Central Catholic was 8th, Johnson-Brock 10th, and Lewiston 12th in the team standings.

 Individually, in the girls’ portion of the meet, Haley Harsin of Syracuse set meet records in winning the 800 and 3200-meter runs. Her time in the 800 was 2:22.6, and her time in the 3200 was 11:51.8. The Rockets' Emily Harsin tied a meet record with a time of 15.2-seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

 Syracuse also got first place finishes from Sarah Antes in the pole vault and Julia Reed in the triple jump.

 Pawnee City’s Shelby Hundley won both the 400-meter dash and the 300-meter hurdles. The Indians’ Mariah Willey won the high jump and long jump, and Pawnee City won the 1600-meter relay.

 Jordan Lempka of Sterling won both the shot put and discus, and Palmyra’s Caitlin Peterson won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

 In the boys’ portion of the meet, Scott Borcher of Pawnee City won both the shot put and discus. His throw of 56-feet, 4.25-inches in the shot put is a new meet record.

Sacred Heart’s Yianni Haralabidis won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. The Irish also got first place finishes from Sean Strasheim in the pole vault and Austin Malone in the triple jump, and Sacred Heart won the 400 and 1600-meter relays. The Irish 400-meter relay team of Haralabidis, Sawyer Kean, Chaz Dunn, and Austin Malone set a meet record with a time of 44.5-seconds.

Trey Trauernicht of Sterling won the 800 and 1600-meter runs.

Turner Moore of Syracuse won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles, and the Rockets got a first place finish from Jake Heitkamp in the high jump.
