JCN Girls & Hiawatha Boys Teams Earn First Place at ACCHS Track Invite

Twelve area teams converge with one more team in Effingham on Tuesday and competed against each other on the track and in the field at the ACCHS Invitational.

At the end of the day eight of the 13 schools competing finished with at least one individual first place performance at the ACCHS Invitational. In the team competition it was the JCN lady Chargers winning the girls team title by 26 points over Hiawatha who took home second and ACCHS grabbed third. The rest of the girls teams finishes were: 4th - Riverside, 5th - McLouth, 6th - Doniphan West, 7th - Maur Hill-Mount Academy, 8th - Holton, 9th - Valley Falls, 10th - Jeff West, 11th - Oskaloosa, 12th - Veritas Christian and 13th - Horton.

On the boys side of competition it was Hiawatha claiming first place winning by 10.5 points over Riverside who took home second place, while Jeff West finished third. The rest of the boys teams finishes were: 4th - Holton, 5th - Maur Hill-Mount Academy, 6th - McLouth, 7th - Valley Falls, 8th - Doniphan West, 9th - JCN, 10th - Horton, 11th - Oskaloosa, 12th - ACCHS and 13th - Veritas Christian.

It was the Hiawatha Red Hawks walking away with the most individual gold medals on the day as the boys and girls won a combined 14 events on the day, led by multiple multi-event winners. In the girls competition Jordan Puvogel raced her way to wins in the 1600 and 800 meter runs with times of 5:25 and 2:27, while Brianna Schmitz also won a pair of track events winning the 200 and 400 meter runs with times of 27.69 and 1:03. Red Hawks also took home the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay titles with times of 4:20 and 10:28.While, Emily Gartner also grabbed multiple gold medals on the day as she tossed her way to wins in the discus (127'01) and shot put (37'04.75). One Red Hawk boys claimed two event titles on the day, too as Conner Bigham raced his way to a win in the 800 meter run (2:09.14) and leapt his way to a win in the high jump (6'04).

The first place performances didn't stop there for Hiawatha as Courtney Brockhoff won the 3200 meter run (13:00) for another first on the girls side, while three other gold's were won by Red Hawk boys on top of Bigham's two first place finishes. Quentin Overdick tossed his way to the win in the discus (142'03), while Brandt Houk won the 3200 meter run (10:50) and the Red Hawks 4x800 meter relay team took gold with a time of 9:00.

Riverside and JCN both had five individual first place performances on the day for the Cyclones they all came in boys competition and for JCN they all came in the girls competition on the day.

Riverside on the day was led by Andrae McGaughy who won a pair of events claiming the 300 meter hurdles (41.96) and triple jump (41'05.5), titles. Cody Walker and Dillon Logston joined McGaughy with a gold medal on the day winning the javelin (151'04) and pole vault (11'0), respectively. Cyclones also won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:36.

For JCN the Chargers won four of the five first place performances in the field competitions with the lone win on the track coming by the 4x100 meter relay team, posting a time of 53.92 to win. Heather Polson, Jamie Navinskey, Laramie Leakey and Lauryn Baker all won field events for the lady Chargers. Polson claimed the high jump title (5'2), Navinskey won the long jump (15'07.5), Leakey took home gold in the pole vault (9'0) and Baker finished first in the triple jump (33'05).

The Holton Wildcats took home four first place performances, all coming in the boy’s competition on the day. Wildcats 4x100 meter relay team sprinted to the win behind a time of 45.15, while Drake Ewing also sprinted to an individual win in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.43. Brendan Hampton took home gold in the 110 meter hurdles (15.76) and Dalton Colhouer won the 1600 meter run (4:54) for the Wildcats.

McLouth Bulldogs saw three individual gold medals earned on the day by their competitors as Drew Cerny won the 200 meter dash (23.12) and Anna Moore won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 17.29 and 51.20.

Horton, Valley Falls and Doniphan West each all had one first place individual on the day at the ACCHS Invite. For the Horton Chargers, Trey Dishon tossed his way to the win the shot put (48'04.5); Valley Falls Dragon, Emily Nottingham won the 100 meter dash (13.53) and Doniphan West Mustang, Alyssa Clark won the javelin (103'4).
