Atchison Girls Win Home Track Meet While Boys Take 4th While Maur Hill & Troy Also Compete

Atchison played host to eight other schools for track action and at the end of the day the lady Redmen came out on top in their home meet, while the boys took home fourth. Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Troy from the area also competed in the action taking fifth and sixth for the Ravens girls and boys, while Troy boys and girls both finished ninth as teams.

The strong start to the track and field season continued for the lady Redmen of Atchison on their home track and on that track Sierra Smith spear headed the top notch Atchison performances winning the 100 and 200 meter dash crowns with time of 12.62 and 26.23. Sarah Jaloma added another first place for Atchison on the track claiming that in the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:34.55, while the Redmen 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams both claimed first, too. The team of Jaihlyn Bratton, Kate McCoole, Madline and Anna Shipley won the 4x400 with a time of 4:24.60, while Anna Shipley teammed with Lucy Newkirk, Lyndi Hanson and Tiffany Gillmore to win the 4x800 behind a time of 11:19.99.

McCoole added to her first as part of the relay team with a second place in the 400 meter run, while Newkirk added to her day too with a second place, also hers coming in the 3200 meter run. Three third place performances were grabbed by lady Redmen on the track with Imogene Bratton taking third in the 200 meter dash, Madeline Shipley added to her relay first place with a third in the 400 meter run and Hailey Macjerowski posted third place in the 3200 meter run.

It was in the field competitions were Madeline Shipley made the most noise for Atchison as she claimed the pole vault title with a vault of 8'0. Harleigh Boldridge was the only other lady Redmen to claim a top three showing in the field events as she took second in the shot put and third in the javelin.

For Maur Hill who took fifth place as team their day was highlighted by Carly Taylor won came home with a first place finish in the high jump, winning the crown with a leap of 4'8. While Kassie Johnson had the best finish on the track for the Ravens taking second in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Troy lady Trojans on the day were led by Holly Whestine who took home first place in the long jump behind a leap of 14'11.25.

On the ‘ side, Atchison on the day registered three first place performances with a pair of them coming at the hands of Dane Anderson as he tossed his way to wins in the discus and shot put, behind tosses of 139'1 and 48'3, respectively. Jerel Rawls took home the lone first for the Redmen on the track winning the 400 meter run with a time of 52.82.

Only one other top three finish was claimed by Atchison in the field events and that was a third place showing in the long jump by Joe Butner. While on the track it was three top three finish for Atchison as Justin Witmer took home second place in the 800 meter run and the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relay teams each took third place. The 4x100 team consisted of Gassman, Welch, Smith and Johnston, while the 4x800 team was Horvatic, Whitmer, Huntington and Rawls.

For Maur Hill their day was highlighted by a second place performance from their 4x400 meter relay team that took home second place. The team consisted of Trotter, Curry, Caudle and Wagner for the Ravens. Nathaniel Curry also posted a second place showing for the Ravens in the 400 meter run.
