Sabetha's Cox & Girls Team, Plus Hiawatha's Puvogel Highlight Horton CC Invite

Fifteen teams, 100 plus boys runners and 75 plus girls runners were featured in this years Horton Cross Country Invite and the Kanzaland area athletes stood once again in another cross country meet.

Leading the highlight performances for the Kanzaland area athletes were the Sabetha Bluejays and Hiawatha Redhawks. In the girls competition the entire top 10 consisted of Kanzaland area runners. It was Hiawatha Redhawk, Jordan Puvogel once again raced her way to success as she won another race, her fourth of the year. Puvogel captured the Horton Invitational crown with a time of 16:39.00, 20 seconds better than second place finisher, Leah Murata of Horton, who herself had another successful meet on the year. Sabetha Bluejay, freshman, Taryn Schuette took third place on the day, with Riverside's, Connor Schultz capturing fourth and Madison Bissell rounding out the top five from ACCHS.

The rest of the top 10 individual performances came from four different Kanzaland area schools. Pleasant Ridge Rams took home sixth and seventh, respectively with Rachel Hattok and Hailey Worthington. Atchison runner, Sarah Jaloma took eighth, Marysville Bulldog, Bryclin Alstrom placed ninth and Jackson Heights Cobra, Kaitlynn Little raced her way to tenth place.

For the team performances it was the Sabetha Bluejays girls highlighting the action placing first after having all seven of their runners finish inside the top 23 of the day. The Bluejays girls team is currently ranked sixth in the latest Kansas Coaches cross country poll in Class 3A. Pleasant Ridge placed second as a team, while host Horton finished third as a team.

On the boys side of competition the top Kanzaland area finisher was Trenton Cox of Sabetha who placed third in the meet with a time of 18:40.00. Four other Kanzaland area runners joined Cox in the top 10 on the day all from different schools. Pleasant Ridge's, Tony Weber took fifth place, while Micah LaCrone of Jeff West placed seventh, he was followed by Thomas Broxterman of Royal Valley and Tyler Boeckman of Hiawatha who finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Highlighting the team performances for the boys Kanzaland area teams was the Jeff West Tigers who placed second on the day and Royal Valley followed them with a third place finish. West Platte finished first place as a team, with individual runners taking first and fourth to highlight their day.

Overall another successful day for Kanzaland area cross country runners and programs with a multitude of runners and teams featured at this years Horton Invitational.
